The Heal
The first basic connection you want to maintain with your dog is where he/she should be. Universally, it is established that the dog remains on the left of the owner/handler when walking.

When using the lead / leash to guide your dog, you will want to have the lead / leash in your strong hand. You will be able to use your body as leverage with the dog on the left and the lead / leash being controlled by your right hand. For left-handed people: you can try the same side. However, you can switch for your convenience. Just remember to stay consistent.

The Stay
Depending on your activity with your dog, the Stay command may be one of the most vital commands for you and your K-9 friend.

When introducing the stay command, at Busy Rottie will suggest starting simple. Try taking your friend for a walk. When you want to take a quick break during the walk, that is a prime moment to show your dog the stay. Take a moment and just stand in place telling the dog to stay. Remember, when you are ready finish with the 3 Rs (Release, Reward and Return).
